Gout
Painful joint
Gout is a very painful type of arthritis that often occurs in the foot or ankle. This patient will typically present with a joint that is red, hot and swollen and often will present out of the blue for the patient. It is a very treatable condition and it is best to seek treatment right away.
Dr. McGowan Explains:
"Gout can really sneak up on some people. Patients sometimes are in shock that they have gout. They present with a red, hot swollen great toe and wonder what the heck is wrong with them. We take X-rays and do some counseling on why people get gout and how we treat and prevent it in the future. I always recommend to seek your podiatrist's care whenever your foot is red, hot and swollen."
