Ingrown Toenail Removal in Central Florida
One of the most common conditions to walk into our office is an ingrown nail. People describe the pain as severe at times, and even describe difficulty sleeping due to the lightest touch like that of their sheet, that is from a painful ingrown toenail. There are many causes of an ingrown nail but the two most common are trauma and aggressively trimming back the corner of ones nail. The definition of trauma is not someone hitting your toe with a bat! It is simply being in shoes that are too small and the toe continues to get beat up and the border of the nail starts to grow into the skin. We have a simple in office fix that we have performed in our Clermont Florida office for over 22 years and now can offer this in our Leesburg Florida office. Read more below to see if your symptoms match. We have videos below of our podiatrists discussing ingrown toenails and videos of how the procedure of the removal of the ingrown toenail is performed.
Permanent Ingrown Toenail Removal
There is a simple in office procedure that can be performed. We numb the affected toe and then remove the offending border or borders with special instruments. It is simple and effective. There is after care of soaking and keeping the toe covered with antibiotic cream and band aid for about 2 weeks.
Don't wait until it gets too bad to get in. We only take a small portion of the ingrown nail. So in most cases you can barely tell you even had this simple in office procedure performed! Once the nail is ingrown there are not too many things you can do for yourself at home to make this better. Call your foot doctor and get in right away! At the Center for Ankle and Foot Care we have same day appointments available!
Curious how we get the toe numb?
Whenever I give an injection in the foot I tell patients, "think happy thoughts." Mainly because some people do great with the shot and others do not. It is a quick shot and the payoff of getting the shot to get your problem fixed is huge! We have placed this video here so you know what to expect if you have an ingrown toenail and what the shot is all about.

What is the after care?
We tell all of our patients that the toe is going to look much worse than it feels for a couple of weeks. It will feel so much better but will be draining for two weeks or more. The drainage can be yellow, which patients often confuse with infection. During the 2 weeks after the procedure we give all of our patients soaking instructions and very strict instructions to keep the toe covered with antibiotic topical cream and band aid.

Does insurance cover ingrown toenail?
Most of the time this is a covered procedure by insurance company. At the Center for Ankle and Foot Care we have a full time employee who verifies your insurance and is able to tell you before the procedure if you have a deductible, copay or no responsibility. We feel it is important for patients to be informed about cost before the procedure.
