Ingrown Toenail Post op Instructions
After having an ingrown toenail procedure it is important to follow the following instructions to have the best outcome:
Everyday you need to soak the toe in luke warm water and epsom salts
Begin once a day Epsom salt soak 24 Hrs. after procedure.- Soak for minimum of 10 to 15 minutes at least once a day but twice is even better- Add 1 tablespoon of Epsom Salt to 1 quart of WARM water.- After soaking dress the toe with the antibiotic cream and a Band-Aid- The dressing should be changed after every soak- Do not leave the toe open to air!
It is important to keep the toe covered to prevent foreign debris from entering the area until follow up with the Dr. McGowan or Dr. Henne
Helpful Information:- Stay off your feet as much as possible today. You can wear any shoe, sandals oropen toes footwear that does not squeeze, constrict or put pressure on your toe.- Discomfort: you can elevate your foot to help alleviate minor swelling, bleedingand discomfit. You may also take 800 mg of Advil or Motrin every 6 hours asneeded for pain.- For the next 4-6 weeks the area where the nail was removed may drain a greento yellow fluid and there may be same slight bleeding; this is NORMAL.
