Posterior Tibial Tendonitis
Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD) is a common condition that affects the foot and ankle, leading to pain and disability.
This condition arises when the posterior tibial tendon, which supports the arch of the foot and helps in proper foot function, becomes inflamed or torn. Over time, the tendon may lose its strength and functionality, resulting in a flattened arch and progressive foot deformity.
Symptoms of Posterior Tibial Tendonitis
- Pain and Swelling: Pain along the inside of the foot and ankle, often accompanied by swelling.
- Flatfoot: A noticeable flattening of the arch of the foot.
- Difficulty Walking: Difficulty in walking or standing for extended periods due to pain and instability.
- Changes in Foot Shape: As the condition progresses, the foot may change shape, with the toes pointing outward.
