Not everyone needs custom orthotics. Custom orthotics are usually reserved for patients who have suffered with different foot or ankle pain and are not getting better with simple treatment plans.

Some reasons people get custom orthotics:

    • Plantar fasciitis
    • Flat feet
    • Bunions
    • High Arches
    • Posterior Tibial Tendonitis
    • Peroneal Tendonitis
    • Hallux Limitus

Dr. Henne Explains Why Custom Orthotics Are Keeping Him Running

"I have been an avid runner for years. The closer I got to fifty years old the more I noticed little more aches and pains then I had before! I actually did not think I needed custom foot orthotics but when Dr. McGowan wanted to introduce this technology to our practice I was the first person she digitally scanned. I started to notice less and less lower back pain and less inner knee pain as I ran.  I continue to run 5 miles 5 days a week and I feel like my orthotics have been like getting new tires on my car!"

Dr. McGowan Explains Cost:

McGowanOur office gives patients a verification form for the patient to call their insurance to see if orthotics are covered. Many insurances, like Medicare do not cover orthotics unless you are diabetic.

"We will give you detailed diagnosis codes for what is wrong with your foot and ankle and you call your insurance.  If your insurance says they are covered we give you a prescription to go to an orthotic lab.  We do this because many times when the insurance company says orthotics are covered and we bill they still deny it.(even after telling you they are covered) As this is a passion of mine and I put 110% effort into each and every patient we can not perform this service for free. It takes 6-10 hours to print a pair and that does not include the designing part of the orthotic in the software. Patients are very satisfied with our quick turnaround and superior product.  I will reprint orthotics if we need to change something during the break in period to perfect the device! This is the absolute highest level of care you will get!"

What you get with our orthotics: First you have an evaluation performed by the doctor. Your condition is assessed and treated, the orthotic would be considered a part of your treatment plan. If orthotics are indicated our doctor will scan your feet and upload your scans into the computer.

Next the doctor creates your orthotic with specialized offloads or extensions needed for your foot condition. This process is not fast and after about 6 hours, your custom devices are finished.

Our devices are custom and for your feet only: This is not like going to one of the shoe stores that "custom fit" you in an over the counter insert and charge you well over $1,000 between shoes and inserts. Don't get me wrong, we think there are lots of great over the counter orthotics and not everyone needs custom inserts. But good over the counter inserts will run you about $75 not $550.

Custom is more expensive, but well worth it: Our office is always transparent in pricing for these devices. This custom insert with a shorter turn around then a traditional orthotic. Our discounted self pay costs $550 and $275 for each additional pair. Most people purchase one pair of orthotics and move them from shoe to shoe but you can always purchase more if you don't like moving them. This is an investment in your feet and it is a custom device made with cutting edge technology. Our doctors are dedicated to work with you to have a perfect fit! .
